The Petaluma Arts Association has been holding Art in the Park for more than 60 years. But given the current circumstances, we feel continuing with the event as-is would not be appropriate.

After careful consideration, we've decided to move our event online. We believe this exhibition will offer an exciting new way to discover the work of the artists in our communities.

We hope you'll join us from August 1st to September 1st, when creators across Sonoma, Napa, and Marin counties will share their work.

You can look forward to interesting studio tours and demonstrations, watching music and performances, exploring image galleries of art and fine crafts, enjoying poetry and readings, learning about local artists, and discovering work you can purchase.

If you make art, fine crafts, poetry, music, or perform and live in Sonoma, Napa, or Marin counties, we'd love if you joined us. There is no cost to participate and no commissions will be taken on sales.

You can find details about the event here.

Our Event Will Feature:

My watercolor paintings are vibrant, realistic and detailed. I love showing the contrast of strong light and shadow in my work. I find the transparency and clarity of watercolor most beautiful. My subject matter varies from local scenes to modern still life paintings to paintings of farm animals. I love the expression of light in watercolor painting and enjoy the challenges that watercolor painting presents.

Last year, I wrote and illustrated COLOR PETALUMA : a historic California town coloring book for adults & children. It is still available to purchase for $20.  I accept commissions to paint people portraits, pet portraits and architectural watercolors.
Please call 707 291-0380 for further information.

For more than 25 years, northern California’s Bracket have felt like a square peg in a world of round holes. “We have always thought it was hard for us to fit in, wherever we were,” says guitarist Angelo Celli. “It’s difficult for people to pinpoint us and put us in a category.”

The story goes that Bracket were too melodic to be punk, and too punk to be pop. But the band found a home at a haven for misfits, Fat Wreck Chords. The label released Bracket’s early EPs and three albums (1997’s Novelty Forever, 2000’s When All Else Fails, and 2002’s Live in a Dive), and also included Bracket on the massively popular compilations Fat Music for Fat People and Survival of the Fattest.

Bracket went their own way to explore their love of classic pop and Beach Boys harmonies on 2006’s Requiem (Takeover Records), 2014’s Hold Your Applause (self-released), and 2016’s The Last Page (an ambitious 70-minute single song, also self-released).  Singer-guitarist Marty Gregori even wrote and recorded an album of string quartet music. But performing at Fat’s 25th anniversary show in 2015 reconnected Bracket and Fat. Too Old to Die Young, Bracket’s ninth full-length, comes from that reunion.
This song is from our new album, Too Old to Die Young. The video was created by another local talent, Mike Sloat!

I started writing poetry in 1965 when I was a freshman in high school. It was after the assassination of John F Kennedy and the early death of my Uncle Jim. The poems were about death. I have written ever sense. My mother Geri Digiorno who was a writer, artist and poet Laureate of Sonoma County. She influenced and taught me. My first book of poetry “Homeless In Petaluma” was published in 2008. I have several books I am working on. I love to write. I find it healing.

A native of New Jersey I spent my youth involved with arts and crafts in school and at home. I started painting with oils in high school where I began using my middle name, Simonne, as my pen name and after graduating I attended the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston for one year where I did mono-printing and drawing. In 1978, I moved to San Francisco and then to Marin County, CA, where I started taking classes at The College of Marin in etching and watercolor. I married in 1989 and we had our first child in 1994 and another in 1997. This brought us to live in Petaluma, CA, where I took classes in drawing, pastel and watercolor at the Santa Rosa Junior College. My love of music and the journey it has taken me on, has inspired me to have musicians and dancers be the subjects of most of my work. Some of my works are landscape/nature paintings. Even though I work in color with watercolors, pastel and pencil, I am particularly fond of simple line drawings in pen or pencil. I was commissioned to create posters for three benefit shows at The Freight and Salvage in Berkeley from 2012-2014 for Friends Foundation International. I joined the Petaluma Arts Association in 2016 served as Secretary for one year then took on the role as President in 2018.

“Feeling love” is at the core of my work around the Goddess Project. It is the innate need in us all that is the driving force in the message written on the bottom of all my pieces which reads “You are loved.” “It is in a moment sometime soon after I begin that I see her. It’s a conversation between me and the clay at first, but then it’s just between her and I. Though it is a true argument who is leading this dance I do with the Goddess, I gladly surrender.” Art began for me through my love of denim, turning clothing into wearable art in my head a million times until I just had to do it for real! I began hand building with clay in the late 90’s, later realizing I see things in the world differently because of it. I am inspired to create things that lift people up through my art and the human need to feel loved.

While I was working on my 100 goddess project it was my dream that I’d be in the window sculpting. And they were going to let me but it was a total hot box, so I decided on the sidewalk. Every Sunday for the month of June while my art was in the window I sculpted outside and talked to people walking by. Wild experience!

Shop and Connect with Creators

As you explore the exhibition, you'll find links to more of our creators' work. Enjoy connecting with them on social media and shopping through their websites, stores, or direct communication.

Our common world is elevated by seeing people succeed, and our choice to make this event free of fees and commissions was primarily in response to a pandemic that's greatly limited the opportunities available to creators. We hope this exhibition will help support creators and our local art scenes by providing a place to show and sell work.

We'd like to acknowledge another dimension of shared interest and join the chorus of voices affirming that BLACK LIVES MATTER. We believe the opportunity to not be at a much higher risk of being killed by police should be extended to everyone. We urge you to lend your voice and explore what change might be possible in service of a better world.

We wish creators, advocates, and everyone going through these trying times safety, success, and hope.
