Pouring paint onto canvas has been the preferred method of painting by certain artists since Helen Frankenthaler and Jackson Pollock became known for their work in color. The name of this method is “Color Field” painting.

Lynn Hennessy is a contemporary Color Field painter, a colorist who has a background in figurative study and plein air painting. She has chosen this way of painting as an expressive approach to working with color, form and paint. She does not use brushes.

“Blending colors together is similar to playing musical notes together in chords and rhythms. The visual color experience is in vibrations which we recognize intuitively as we do with musical melody.”

“Pouring color, or paint, allows me an opening for a more creative expression solidly based on my knowledge of form and color. It has been very gratifying to create my own process of painting along with my own visual language. I mix all my own colors and create my own imaginal content.
